Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for Raymond & Beverly Sackler Scholarships for PhD candidates at the University of Cambridge to study in the UK. The awards are open to both EU and non-EU applicants and will provide for all university and college fees due, 3 years maintenance at the current UK Research Council level, and a limited contribution to research expenses.

About University: The University of Cambridge is one of the world’s oldest universities and leading academic centres. It is made up of over 150 departments, faculties, schools and other institutions.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

Available Subject: The University supports an initiative to promote research at the interface between the Physical and Biological Sciences (including Clinical Medicine) with the aim of foster new multidisciplinary collaborations between research groups.

Scholarship Benefits: The Managers of the Sackler Fund invite applications for those wishing to begin their PhD in October 2018. The awards, which are open to both EU and non-EU applicants, will provide for all university and college fees due, 3 years maintenance at the current UK Research Council level (at least £14,553 per annum), and a limited contribution to research expenses (to be negotiated with project supervisor). Awards may also be made to supplement part-support from other sources.

Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Application Procedure: Applicants should apply, or have applied, to the University in the usual way. By collaborating with their potential host PhD supervisor or supervisors, applicants should prepare a two-page research proposal, which outlines the aims of the PhD project and includes a concise discussion of why it fits with the stated aims of the Fund. All applicants should, in addition to submitting their online application form, send a copy of their research proposal as an e-mail attachment to the Graduate Office, Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics, to arrive no later than Friday 23 February 2018.
